The Latitude and Longitude Converter makes it easy to convert between different formats of geographic coordinates: degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS) and decimal degrees. When working with GPS data, mapping tools, or scientific research, this converter simplifies the process of translating coordinate systems.

Decimal Degrees Units to Degrees, Minutes and Seconds Converter

Latitude : deg min sec

Longitude: deg min sec

The latitude is the angle formed by the equatorial plane with a line connecting the point of latitude to the center of the Earth. By design the values are between -90° and 90°. Latitude is 0° at the equator and on the northern hemisphere the values are positive. On the southern hemisphere the values are negative.

For longitude there is no natural reference like the equator for the latitude and the longitude reference has therefore been set to the Greenwich Meridian through the Royal Greenwich Observatory in London. The longitude is the angle formed by the half plane formed by the axis of the earth and passes through the Greenwich meridian and the half-plane formed by the axis of the earth and passing through the point.

Use positive longitude values east of London (max 180°) and negative longitude values west of London (min -180°) in the converter.

Degrees, Minutes and Seconds to Decimal units Converter

Convert to decimal degrees.

Latitude : (degrees)

Longitude: (degrees)

Examples of Conversion:

DMS to Decimal Degrees:

  • 63° 30' 22.1178" N, 9° 12' 3.276" E   =>   63.506144, 9.20091

Decimal Degrees to DMS:

  • 63.506144, 9.20091   =>   63° 30' 1178" N, 9° 12' 3.276" E
