A first degree equation with one unknowns can be expressed as

a₁ x + c₁ = a₂ x + c₂                                  (1)

The equation can be transformed to

x = (a₁ - a₂) / (c₂ - c₁)                 (1b)

Example - Solving a First Degree Equation with One Unknown

22 x - 10 = 12 x + 20 

22 x - 12 x = 20 - (-10)

(22 - 12) x = 30

x = 30 / 10

x = 3
